Gabriel Castilloux

Gabriel Castilloux Calderón (they/them) is niiz-manidoowag (two spirit) Mi'kmaq, Algonquin, Scottish and French Canadian. They currently thrive in Cree/Blackfoot/Salteaux/Nakota Sioux Treaty 6 territory (so called Edmonton). Gabriel is actively involved in several different forms of traditional indigenous culture and ceremony, as a drummer, and a grass, jingle and buffalo dancer, and proudly celebrates an addiction free life. Gabriel is an author of, “Andwànikàdjigan” in Love After the End and “Ishkode” in Prairie Fire. They are also a Social Worker, with a BSW from Carleton University as well as a diploma in Community Addictions Training. They are also a recipient of a diploma in traditional herbology and medicine making from the Herbal Freedom School. Participant in the Banff Centre for Art and Creativity: Indigenous Storyteller and Spoken Work taught them many useful skills in regards to the work they do and they way they integrate traditional storytelling into a contemporary setting. Their work uses their education with years of experience as a workshop presenter and educator as well as a seasoned crafter and creator.
