Are you working harder than your students? Pulling your hair out with inclusive education? In this session you will learn about how to structure a unit so students can work at their own pace. This model of teaching has allowed us individualize instruction to reach each student, even with large class sizes and a spectrum of learning needs. You will leave the session with 3 full examples of units that have successfully worked in the classroom. This can be applied to any subject, but our exemplars are from Math 8, Social 8, and LA 8. The benefits to this method of instruction are numerous: strong students can work ahead without being bored, weak students can work through fewer tasks thoroughly, it teaches students to follow directions and critically think on their own, it frees up the teacher to work primarily on formative support during class with the students who require it, it enhances engagement and independence among students. This session is directed to teachers who teach core subjects. We have tried this out in Jr. High, successfully. Elementary teachers, come and see how well this would work for you!
