Restorative practice is an emerging social science that studies how to strengthen relationships between individuals as well as social connections within schools and communities. Restorative practice is grounded in a way of thinking and being. This session will explore how implementing a restorative practice framework in your classroom and school can strengthen relationships with and among students, build social capital and repair harm as a way of building community. Restorative practices have been shown to support welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning environments as required in Alberta's School Act and also support several of the competencies and indicators described in the new Teacher Quality Standard and Leadership Quality Standard. Creating an environment where all students belong and are engaged is the foundation for learning.
