Mulitplication and Division of Fractions - Mental Math strategies

This session will show how to develop the multiplication and division operations of fractions with the same visual of a number line - as one would think of performing these operations with Natural Numbers. The idea is to see fractions as numbers, just a Natural Numbers are easy to work with; no new rules for fractions. We will use whiteboard number lines and the fantastic plastic fraction strips by Spectrum-Nasco Canada (Fraction Kits). Come and learn how to help students conceptualize fraction operations in the same way they conceptualize these for Natural Numbers. The goal is to increase the comfort, ease and flexibility of the student's fraction math skills.
