Exploring Literary Techniques in Reading and Writing

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Elementary-age students are often surprised to learn how authors make deliberate choices to create an effect in their writing. This session will explore literary techniques such as word choice, alliteration, rhythm, rhyme, onomatopoeia, and sensory details: techniques outlined specifically in the proposed update to the Alberta ELA curriculum. Many mentor text examples will be shared so that teachers and students can explore these techniques in their reading before beginning to attempt them within their own writing.
